How a room runs

1. Whoever opens the room is the GM

   The answer appears on the GM’s screen and nowhere else. It never reaches anybody else’s screen until the end.

2. The GM picks a puzzle (or writes one)

   Pick from the puzzles on this site, or type your own on the spot. Your own puzzle lives in that room only and is never stored anywhere.

3. Everyone posts questions

   Written so they can be answered yes or no. The GM replies with yes, no, or doesn’t matter, and marks the ones that get close as good questions.

4. Someone answers, and the GM judges it

   Post what you think really happened. If the GM accepts it, the answer and the list of good questions open up for everybody.

When you are all in one place, the picker on the front page is quicker. One device, read the puzzle out, and you have started.

Common questions

How many people can play?

A GM on their own can open a room and pick a puzzle first; anyone who turns up later just joins. A room holds 50 people including the GM. With a big group, agreeing loosely on who asks next keeps it moving.

Can we do this on a voice call?

On a call or in text alone, either works. Because the questions and answers stay on screen, it is easier to follow than a call by itself.

Do we have to sign up or install anything?

No. Open a room and send the link. The room closes on its own three hours after the last thing anyone does in it.

Can I use a puzzle I wrote myself?

Yes. The GM types the puzzle and the answer and starts. What you type is used in that room only; it is never saved or published on the site.

What happens if I drop off the network?

Open the same link again and you are back in the same seat. If the GM stays away, the role moves to someone else — and the answer moves to their screen with it.
